Mercy
Text: Matthew 5:7
Mercy Defined
To help the afflicted
To bring help to the wretched
To show compassion
To show forbearance to an offender
who may not deserve the kindness
Mercy Dealt
Mercy is the option of the one in power
Mercy is the option of the one who has been offended
Mercy is the choice to dismiss the offense and to
forego the punitive consequences
Mercy is the choice to preserve fellowship rather
than punish offenders
Mercy Developed
Do not judge, so that you will not be judged (Mt. 7:1-2)
Do not complain about one another (James 5:9)
Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each
other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
(Ephesians 4:2)
Accepting the (spiritual) weakness of others
(Jude 1:22)
Footnotes::
Mt. 7:1-2“For in the way that you judge, you will be judged,
and by your standard of measure you will be measured.”
Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and
do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon,
and you will be pardoned.”
Ro 14:4“Who are you to judge the servant of another?
To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.”
Ro 14:10 -13 “But as for you, why do you judge your brother
or sister? Or you as well, why do you regard your brother
or sister with contempt? For we will all appear before the
judgment seat of God””. For it is written: “As I live, says
the Lord, to Me every knee will bow, And every tongue will
give praise to God.” So then each one of us will give an
account of himself to God. Therefore let’s not judge one
another anymore, but rather determine this: not to
put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s or
sister’s way.
James 5:9 “Do not complain, brothers and sisters, against
one another, so that you may not be judged; behold, the
Judge is standing right at the door.”
Ephesians 4:2 Be kind to one another, compassionate,
forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven
you”.
Jude 1:22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting;
Mercy Displayed

Footnotes:
Luke 6:27-38 But I say to you who hear, love your
enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those
who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other
also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not
withhold your shirt from him either. Give to everyone
who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours,
do not demand it back. Treat others the same way you
want them to treat you. If you love those who love you,
what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those
who love them. If you do good to those who do good
to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do
the same. If you lend to those from whom you expect
to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend
to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting
nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and
you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind
to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your
Father is merciful. “Do not judge, and you will not be
judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be
condemned, pardon, and you will be pardoned. Give,
and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap
a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and
running over. For by your standard of measure it will
be measured to you in return.”
Mercilessness
"For judgment will be merciless to one who has
shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over
judgment" . James 2:13
Mercy Desired
"Blessed are the merciful
for they shall receive mercy".
Matthew 5:7
