The Person God Chooses

    Text:  I Samuel 16:1-13

SAMUEL ANOINTS DAVID

God does not see as man sees

Man looks at the outward appearance

               God looks at the heart

THE KINGDOM REMOVED FROM SAUL AND GIVEN TO DAVID

But now thy kingdom shall not continue; the Lord hath sought Him
a man after His own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to
be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which
the Lord commanded thee.  I Samuel 13:14

PAUL’S SERMON AT PISIDIAN ANTIOCH

And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to

be their king’ to whom also he gave their testimony, and said,

I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart,

whIch shall fulfil all my will.  Acts 13:22

DAVID’S “PERFORMANCE”

David had eight wives.  (I Chron. 3; I Samuel 18:27)

David was guilty of adultery and likely sexual assault, and

Perhaps even rape  (2 Samuel 11:4)

David was guilty of murder  (2 Samuel 11:14-15, 23-24)

THE GRACE OF GOD

Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has taken away
your sin; you shall not die
.”   I Samuel 12:13-14

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE “AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART?”

Confession of sin       An admission that our heart is not right

Belief  in God’s desire to forgive sin

Trusting in God’s forgiveness of sin

Humble surrender to the Lord   Yielding to the power of grace
                     and the Spirit

               Complete dependence on Him

Joyfully embracing the life found in Him      Feasting on the

                     Tree of Life
