WHAT SHALL WE DO?
LUKE 3:1-18
_______________________________________________
JOHN THE BAPTIST
“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.” Luke 1:16
“And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” Luke 3:3
He fulfilled prophecy. Luke 3:4-6 / Isaiah 40:3-5
*********************************************************************
And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins; as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘Make ready the way of the Lord,Make His paths straight.5 ‘Every ravine will be filled,And every mountain and hill will be [a]brought low;The crooked will become straight,And the rough roads smooth;6 And all flesh will see the salvation of God.’”

JOHN’S MESSAGE (V.7-9)
You vipers, who warned you about the wrath to come?
Let your repentance be evident in your conduct.
Do not presume that your heritage makes you right with God.
God’s judgment is imminent.
Bear fruit or be thrown into the fire.
************************************************************************
1. v. 7 So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
2. v. 8a Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance,
3. v. 8b and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.
4. v. 9 Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

ANSWERING THEIR QUESTION: WHAT SHALL WE DO?
(What does repentance look like?)
His answer to the crowd (Luke 3:10-11)
Share with others less fortunate.
His answer to the tax collectors (Luke 3:12-13)
Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.
His answer to the soldiers (Luke 3:14)
Do not take money from anyone by force.
Do not accuse anyone falsely.
Be content with your wages.
***************************************************************************
v. 10-11 And the crowds were questioning him, saying, “Then what shall we do?” 11 And he would answer and say to them, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.”
v.12-13 And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.”
v. 14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, “And what about us, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages.”
In each case, the evidence of repentance is shown in how we behave in regard to others in the WORLD!

WE ARE GOD’S CHOSEN
Agents - instruments - means
To inform the world of His love and plan for their redemption.
IF WE DON’T DO IT, IT WILL NOT GET DONE!
**********************************************************************************
We are to display His love
And share His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.
If we don’t do it, then it will not get done!
