The Compassion of Christ
The Compassion of Christ toward People and a Culture in Chaos
Text: John 11:17-38
(He set an example for us)
See Beyond the Circumstances
Seeing people as they are:
In their pain
In their fear
In their grief
In their blame
In their confusion
Footnote:
Example: Martha (John 11:17-28)
Empathy:
Being deeply moved by the distress of others
Witness their emotions
Seek to identify with their hurt
Permit yourself to be vulnerable enough
to share their concerns and their pain
Footnote:
Example: Mary (John 11:28-38)
The Principles of Compassion
Seek first to understand, and if needed to be understood
Be willing to come alongside those who are suffering
regardless of the reason for their suffering
Offer hope to those who see no reason to hope
Choose to be loving rather than proving to be right
Footnotes:
There are those who are fearful and
those who resist being fearful.
There are those who are adamant and
there are those who seek to listen and understand.
The Price of Compassion
Embracing pain and suffering
Accepting the reality of personal sacrifice
Expecting to be misunderstood and maligned
Surrendering your will to the moving of the Spirit
and the love of God
Footnotes:
Because: There are those who are fearful and
those who resist being fearful.
There are those who are adamant and
there are those who seek to listen and understand.
How shall we minister to others?
Consider what Christ has done for you
Show the same compassion to others
that you have received from Him
Footnotes:
Because, there are those who are fearful and | those who resist being fearful.
Because, there are those who are adamant and there are those who seek to listen and understand.
