For the Reward
Text: Matthew 6:1-18
Why do you do what you do?
If we do good things for the wrong reasons,
then we forfeit our reward.
WE ARE TO ACT FOR HIS GLORY
AND FOR OUR REWARD
Footnote:
1 Cor 10:31 “Whether then, you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do all to the glory of God.”
Give to the poor
HOW NOT TO GIVE
Not with fanfare
Not to gain honor and praise from others
If we give to receive worldly honor, then we have
received our reward.
HOW TO GIVE
Give humbly and secretly
When we give secretly without fanfare, God will reward us.
Why Pray?
WRONG REASON TO PRAY
Praying to impress others
If you pray to impress others, then you have received
all the reward that you will get.
RIGHT REASON TO PRAY
Go to an inner room (unobserved) close the door (privately)
and pray.
Your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward
you.
How to pray
HOW NOT TO PRAY
Meaningless repetition and using lots of words.
This kind or praying is ineffective, because God already
knows your needs.
HOW TO PRAY
With reverence, submission, dependence, supplication
and praise.
When you Forgive
IF YOU FORGIVE
Then your Heavenly Father will forgive you also. (reward)
IF YOU DO NOT FORGIVE
Then your Heavenly Father will not forgive you.
When you Fast
HOW NOT TO FAST
Try to look like you are suffering
If your fasting draws the attention of others, then their attention is your reward.
HOW TO FAST
Look your best, so your fasting goes unnoticed
Your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
Live for God’s Reward
“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a
REWARDER of those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
