DO GOOD (Galatians 6:1-10) (Kent Smith Notes 7/28/24)

DO NOT GIVE UP, INSTEAD DO GOOD!

STRATEGIES FOR DEALING WITH OTHERS WHO ARE NOT LIKE YOU

GALATIANS 6:1-10

SEEK TO RESTORE

Help restore a fallen believer in a spirit of GENTLENESS

God’s intent is that we live in holiness.

Sin separates us from genuine fellowship with God.

As spiritual persons in Christ, we are called to gently assist one another in restoring our fellowship with God.

**********************************************************************

Galatians 6:1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.

We are still in a relationship with God,

but our fellowship with Him is broken.

The Christian Army is the only one who shoot their wounded.

When a Christian falls into sin, Satan is quick to lead them to believe that they are worthless, damaged goods, and no longer worthy to follow God, or serve Him.

Our job is NOT to JUDGE, but to help RESTORE the believer to a walk of holiness, and renewed fellowship in the body.

BEAR ONE ANOTHER’S BURDENS

Share the load, just as Christ carried our burden!

Strategies to lighten the load.

  • Offer aid if able and needed.

  • Offer encouragement.

  • Pray for them in their difficulty.

  • Pray WITH THEM!

  • Follow up by checking on them.

  • Keep praying.

  • Keep following up.

******************************************************************

GALATIANS 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

REMAIN HUMBLE

Do not assume that your help is:

  • Needed or

  • Wanted

YOU ARE NOT THE ANSWER THEY NEED.

Be cautious about seeking to “fix” others.

“How can I help?”

*****************************************************************

Galatians 6:3 For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

When we seek to point out to others their problems and deficiencies, we are far more likely to create a hostile situation rather than a helpful situation.

LIFE IS NOT A COMPETITION

Do not waste your time COMPARING yourself with others!

The only ONE you need to please is GOD!

He is the only One to measure YOUR WORTH, and YOUR WORKS!

*************************************************************************

Galatians 6:4 -5 But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. For each one will bear his own load.

You are accountable for the abilities God gave you, not the abilities that you do not have!

Marriage:  Is not 50 / 50!  You give 100% of your effort and ability to do all that God has called you to do in service to your spouse and family, even if your spouse does not fulfill their part!

How would your marriage improve if you gave 100% effort even if your spouse did not give their best AND even if they did not notice or appreciate it?

SHOW GRATITUDE

When we thank someone, we validate them as a person of worth.

If someone benefits you, show your gratitude and appreciation for their effort.

Seek to benefit them in the same measure that they benefited you.

**********************************************************

Galatians 6:6  The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him.

SOWING and REAPING

SHOW RESPECT & BE AN ATTENTIVE LISTENER

People often respond in the manner that they are treated.

“Treat people the same way you want them to treat you.” Mt. 7:12

Seek first to understand, and then be understood.

*****************************************************************

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

PERSEVERE

A reward awaits those who persevere.

Do not give up!

Do not quit!

Do not despair!

Do not lose heart!

Do not grow weary!

Do the right thing – again!

***********************************************************************

Galatians 6:9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

Our kind actions may not bring about the hoped for result.  That is not a reason to stop.

Do it again and again.

To the person who gets on your ever-lovin’ last nerve, do not lose heart!  Continue to show love and kindness again and again!

DO GOOD!

OPPORTUNITIES ARE TEMPORARY! (Don’t waste them!)

DO THE: KIND NICE RIGHT GOOD THING

AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY! (especially to believers)

*********************************************************************************

Galatians 6:10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

WE DO THE GOOD AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY NOT FHR THE RESULTS BUT FOR THE REWARD!
