The Marks of Ministry

Text: Acts 9:32-43

ENGAGED

GO TO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE AND SERVE THEM

Peter was going throughout the region, encouraging the

church and preaching the Word. In his travels he came

across a man named Aeneas who had been bedridden

for eight years. Peter involved himself in the troubles of

his life and healed him.

EXALTING

TAKE NOT PERSONAL CREDIT: POINT PEOPLE TO JESUS

Peter exalted Christ, by saying “Jesus Christ Heals you.” It wasn’t the Peter show, it was pointing people to the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. All genuine ministry reflects more

on the power of God than on the performance of the minister.

EMPATHY

BE RESPNSIVE TO THE HURTING SOUL

Peter hears about a saintly woman who has died and goes to minister to the family. Ministry is showing sensitivity to the

hurting, and responding to comfort, encourage, and strengthen. It hurts with those who hurt and adjusts their schedule and plans to meet the needs of others.

ENTREATY

TOTAL RELIANCEW ON THE POWER OF GOD

Peter sent everyone out of the room, knelt down and prayed.

Prayer is listening to God to understand His will and then asking

according to the will of God. Peter had no ability on himself to

raise the dead. But sometime in the prayer he must have sensed

the power and the will of God, for he turned to the body and

said, “Tabitha arise.” And she opened her eyes and sat up.

EVANGELISM

THE FRUIT OF MINISTR IS MORE BELIEVERS

When people saw that Aeneas had been healed, they turned

to the Lord. When people heard about how Tabitha had died and risen to life again, many believed in the Lord. The purpose of ministry is to expose people to the life and work of Jesus.

It is not to make people feel better, be happier, or have a better life. Ministry is to expose people to Jesus, so that He can

transform their lives.

EVERYONE SHOULD BE A MINISTER

To give aid or service: to attend to anything, that may serve

another's interests.

“For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your

freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve

one another.” Galatians 5:13

MINISTRY WITHOUT THE GOSPEL

JUST MAKES PEOPLE MORE COMFORTABLE

ON THEIR WAY TO HELL
