The Glory of God

Text: I Kings 8:10-9:9

The Worship of God

•Sacrifices of praise upon bring the ark to the temple (1 Kings 8:5)

The Glory of God

•Like smoke or a cloud (Ex. 19:9, 24:15, 33:9-10; Lev.16:2)

•Power to illuminate (Rev. 21:23)

•Filled the house of the Lord

Lev 16:2 Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the [a]mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die; for I will appear in the cloud over the [b]mercy seat.

Rev. 21:23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

1 Ki 8:10-11 It happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Ezek 43:4-5 And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the east. 5 And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house.

2 Chr 5:13-14 and when they lifted up their voice accompanied by trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and when they praised the Lord saying, “He indeed is good for His lovingkindness is everlasting,” then the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, 14 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house.

Rev. 15:7-8 Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels

seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever. 8 And the [a]temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no one was able to enter the [b]temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

The Person of God

God is Spirit

God is a real and personal being, a living God

Footnotes:

Numbers 7:89 (Moses) heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim, so He spoke to him.

1 Kings 8:6 Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim.

Revelation 11:19 The temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you”

1 Corinthians 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you.”
