Solomon's Request

“Ask what you wish Me to give to you”

Text: I Kings 3:1-14

God encourages our asking

God invited Solomon to make a request

Psalm 50:15 Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you

Jeremiah 29:12 Call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given you

Psalm 2:8 Ask of me, and I will surely give the nations as your inheritance

Jeremiah 33:3 Call to Me and I will answer you

God evaluates our requests

God was pleased with Solomon’s request (vs. 10)

God always positively answers the prayer

that is in accordance with His will

The prayer God answers…

When the prayer is not just for our benefit

Not long life

Not riches

Not revenge

When we ask to be empowered to complete God’s will

In Solomon’s case it was:

To have understanding

To have discernment

God is a giving god, who gives to meet our greatest needs

God gave Adam and Eve a garden

God gave Noah the plans for an ark

God gave Abraham a blessing

God gave Moses the Law

God gave David the throne of Israel forever

God gave Solomon great wisdom

&

God gave the world His only Son

Psalm 57:2

I will cry to God Most High,

To God who accomplishes

all things for me.
