John's Letter to Gaius

Text: 3 John

The Message: Use Your Influence to Encourage Others

BE PRAYERFUL

“I’m praying for you”

Praying that you prosper in every area of your life

To the same degree that you prosper spiritually

BE PROUD (of them)

“I’m proud of you”

I’ve received reports that you are walking in the truth

When I hear about your walk in the truth, I am filled with joy.

BE POSITIVE

"I’ve heard good reports about you”

Serving the church

Showing hospitality to strangers

BE PURPOSEFUL

Keep the gospel at the center of your efforts

Support genuine gospel ministers

Who preach Christ

Who aren’t seeking money (from unbelievers)

Your support makes you a fellow worker

BE PRUDENT

The “bad” example: Diotrephes

Loves to be first

Doesn’t listen

Spreads dissent

Bullies others

The “good” example: Demetrius

Positive reputation

Faithfulness to the truth

Positive references from godly leaders

BE PERSONAL

Involved: Many things to talk about

Interested: Hope to see you soon

IInvested: Want to see you face-to-face

BE PEACEFUL

Peace be to you

My friends send you greetings

Greet my friends there by name

Christians are more often known for our contentions and divisions, rather than our unity, peace and friendliness.

YOU WILL NEVER INFLUENCE THE WORLD

BY BECOMING JUST LIKE IT
