Love Wisely
Text: 2 John --
The Priority of Love in the Christian’s life
We are commanded to love one another
The Providence of Freedom
Not everyone hears the truth
Not everyone believes the truth
Not everyone obeys the truth
It is by God’s grace alone
The Poison of Deception
Deception:
Seeking to cause someone to accept as true that which is false
Forms of Deception:
DENYING WHAT IS TRUE vs. 7
EXAGGERATING WHAT IS TRUE vs. 9
The Power of Discernment
Dealing with deceivers:
Don’t let them in your house
Don’t greet them
Don’t listen to them
Have nothing to do with them
The Protection of Friendship
John desired to see her face to face
But the matter was of such importance he felt compelled to address it immediately
Practical Discernment
Love everyone (but do not be friends with everyone)
Distance yourself from those who distort the truth
“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God?
Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” James 4:4
